Almost finished

I took off from work today and pruned trees.  We almost finished.  We are down to about 5 to 8 more trees.  As I was pruning I noticed that some of the trees were starting to show some green. So at the end of the day I mixed some deciduous spray and sprayed the trees.  This will burn the green that was showing and cause them to be undersized this year which affects the size of the fruit but there wasn’t that much.  The benefit for the rest of the trees will far out weigh any harm done.

Esther and I will finish the rest of the trees this week.  I will move on to planting more stuff in the garden next week, getting 2 hives ready for the 2 packages of bees I ordered and reworking my chicken house and yard.  It may be a busy week.

Jerry,
I have a tree question for you. Do you remember our June Apple tree that is situated between the house and the barn? It was a nice tree that produced nice apples. This winter due to fence issues we had to put the sheep and cows in the backyard. We did some research and asked some people who said that the animals should not bother our trees. The research and people were wrong. The animals ate the bark around our entire tree. From the bottom up to the point that the cows couldn't reach, the bark has been eaten away all around the tree. They did a nice job of peeling all the bark away without damaging the tree. My question is what do we do now? One man said the tree will surely die and there is nothing to be done. I kind of agree with him, but I am not giving up home yet. Do you have any suggestions or comments? Do you think the tree will die? Thanks for the help!!! Hope you and Connie have a great day.
grace and peace,
julie

Sorry! It should make good smoker fuel. It may produce this year but will be dead by next spring. A tree draws most of its water up between the bark and the wood. The fact that it is gone all the way around the trunk is a death sentence. If you had ask before I would have told you to protect the tree. Not only the bark but an area nearly as large as the circumference of the tree (meaning branches included).

I saw your post on the insurance issue the current administration is trying to pull with us veterans. And Connie wonders that I ramble like a terrorist. I really mean no harm to anyone but at what point do they get the message that they really are kings with no clothes.
